Access to menstrual hygiene products
(Rule 5, Chapter 4)
In November 2020, The Brussels Times reported on a survey carried out by Caritas Vlaanderen, which found that, at times, 12% of females aged 12-25 years old did not have the financial means to purchase period products. On 17 May 2022, the Belgian government announced that period products would be free for women in prison. Previously, only those without a source of income had access to menstrual products. As of 2020, the Belgian government committed €200,000 to address period poverty in the country.
