Videos: Promoting gender-specific treatment of women prisoners and offenders in Kenya
These five short films consisting of a number of interviews with prison and probation staff in Kenya, as well as PRI staff, highlight the specific challenges that women offenders face in Kenya, and the importance of incorporating a gender-sensitive approach using the UN Bangkok Rules.
Since 2015, PRI has been delivering a programme of ‘Training of Trainers’ for prison and probation officers in Kenya on the UN Bangkok Rules, funded by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The training programme developed by PRI includes a number of modules and has been delivered in East Africa and other regions (it is designed to be relevant globally). The training includes a mixture of presentations, interactive exercises, practical case studies and audiovisual clips. This methodology aims to both engage participants and deliver the content in various formats, as well as enable them to hear perspectives from a range of voices and experts.
