This submission responds to a call for information by the UN Working Group on the issue of discrimination against women in law and in practice for their report on safety and security.
Within this broad area of research, the UN Working Group stated they intend to address ‘equality and non-discrimination in the enjoyment of the right to health, including sexual and reproductive rights; in the access to health services, including maternal health services; and in the guarantee of women’s safety’ in their forthcoming report.
PRI’s submission highlights specific health and safety issues arising for women in the criminal justice system, and in particular women in detention.
