Pre-Trial Detention and Penal Reform in Latin America
‘Pre-Trial Detention and Penal Reform in Latin America – Evaluation and Perspectives’ assesses the use of pre-trial detention in Latin America where there has been extensive reform of the criminal justice system over the last 20 years. It has been produced by CEJA (Centro de Estudios de Justicia de las Americas) and La Defensoria Penal Publica de Chile to initiate a debate it is expected will take place over the coming years on the state of the criminal justice systems in Latin American countries.
The publication gives a general overview of the impact the reforms have had on the every day use of pre-trial detention in the region as whole but also includes a detailed overview of the experiences of seven countries Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras and Venezuela.
