National mechanisms for the prevention of torture in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan)
This research report assesses the legislative framework, conditions of detention and the development of monitoring mechanisms, with a particular focus on the establishment of civil society monitoring mechanisms and the National Preventive Mechanisms under OPCAT, in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The research was conducted in 2011-2012 as part of PRI’s 2010-2013 project ‘Strengthening institutions and building civil society capacity to combat torture in 9 CIS countries’, funded by the European Union.
