Making standards work
This is a 10-minute film by Michael Platzer and Slawomir Redo made in 2005 to mark the 50th anniversary of the UN Minimum Standards for the Treatment of Prisoners and a good introduction to the principles behind the Rules and what they have meant in practice. Includes an interview with PRI founding member and former Executive Chairman, Ahmed Othmani, a Tunisian political prisoner and inspirational penal reformer.
The Standard Minimum Rules are currently under review to bring them into line with some of the more recent human rights standards that have evolved in the intervening 60 years. Find out more about the review process.
