Event: Tackling criminalisation of the poor and most marginalised
Side event to the 30th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, organised by The International Legal Foundation, Penal Reform International, Fair Trials and Open Society Foundations.
Globally, the criminalisation of petty offences, such as loitering, vagrancy, drug use and breaching COVID-19 regulations, exacerbate already overburdened criminal justice systems and overcrowded prisons. These offences are used to target and criminalise the poor and the most marginalised members of our societies. At this event, experts and practitioners will discuss strategies and highlight developments from several regions that tackle such offences and result in successful reform.
