PRI in committee to investigate abuse in Jordan
PRI MENA participated in the investigation and evaluation committee created following the King of Jordan’s demand for investigation into alleged abuse and human rights violations at care centres for people with mental disabilities. The PRI team worked with the committee, which visited 58 care centres across Jordan between 15 and 29 May, and assisted with writing and drafting the final report, which was published at a press conference and presented to the King. Taghreed Jaber, PRI Regional Director and member of the main committee, was involved in drafting the relevant proposed amendments on regulations and legislation. The work of the committee will continue in the coming months in order to follow the implementation of the recommendations and disciplinary sanctions against abusers and the centres that violate the law.
