Event: Pre-trial Detention – Last resort or default decision?
Organised by EuroPris and Penal Reform International (with the support of the International Penal and Penitentiary Foundation), and hosted by the French prison administration, this webinar considered the use of pre-trial detention, its impact on prison overcrowding and often disproportionate application for individuals from marginalised groups. Participants heard about the newly adopted EU Commission recommendation on procedural rights of suspects and accused persons subject to pre-trial detention and on material detention conditions, followed by a panel discussion and opportunity for audience participation.
