We continue to work on improving access to rehabilitation and reintegration services in East Africa, building on previous efforts.
Our focus on creating gender-responsive criminal justice systems has been a key part of our work in the region. In Uganda, for example, we have focused on providing psychosocial support, entrepreneurship training, life skills development and healthcare services to women in prison. These services are designed to equip individuals with the tools they need to successfully reintegrate into their community’s post-release. By offering tailored interventions, we aim to address the specific challenges faced by these women and support their transition back into society. Legal assistance, mental health support and connecting families are interventions we see impact for our target beneficiaries and the system as a whole.
In our ongoing efforts to end the death penalty in East Africa, we continue to work on policy and legal reform. For instance, we engage policymakers through regional outreach, building on our previous work in influencing sentencing guidelines and legislative reforms in several countries.
