Handbooks for probation in Tunisia
These Handbooks for NGOs, lawyers and judges were developed within a project on probation in Tunisia, funded by the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
The ‘NGO Handbook on Probation and Crime Prevention’ follows up on a series of training workshops and debates on the importance of restorative justice and alternative sanctions for people in conflict with the law. The Handbook provides an in-depth insight into the relevant law and procedure, and defines the scope of intervention for civil society in the reintegration and rehabilitation of convicts.
The ‘Lawyer’s Handbook on Legal Aid, Non-custodial Measures and Probation’ provides procedural guidelines to help legal aid and counselling organisations to carry out legal activities that promote the application of community service and the development of probation programmes in Tunisia. It identifies the factors that strengthen the implementation of international standards in the administration of justice as well as the rehabilitation and reintegration of people in conflict with the law.
The ‘Judge’s Handbook on Restorative Justice, Non-custodial Measures and Probation’ serves as a guide to areas of intervention and ways of activating restorative justice and alternatives to imprisonment and probation. It sheds light on the practical measures that may be needed in the restorative justice field, with a greater emphasis on good practice in the courts of Sousse and Kairouan and the experiences of the probation office.
