Submission to 58th Session of CEDAW: Examination of Georgia, 2014
Submission addressed to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for its examination of Georgia in the forthcoming 58th Session in July 2014.
The submission specifically addresses the following areas, relating to Articles 2, 5, 12 and 16 of the Convention:
- violence against women
- disproportionate sanctions of women convicted of drug-related offences
- rehabilitation for women prisoners
- prejudices and stereotyped roles for women
- health
- right to family life
It draws on the UN Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders (the Bangkok Rules) and a research report Who are women prisoners? Survey results from Armenia and Georgia published by PRI in 2013, on the results of a survey of 70 per cent of the female prison population.
