Statements to the 20th Session of the Human Rights Council
Below are two statements PRI submitted to the 20th Session of the Human Rights Council (18 June – 6 July 2012). Both statements were issued jointly with the Friends World Committee for Consultation (Quakers). Both statements were – and had to be – related to the respective reports these bodies had submitted to the Human Rights Council.
One was within the Interactive Dialogue with the Working Group on Discrimination against Women in Law and Practice. The focus of the submission relates to discrimination in the justice system and the Bangkok Rules. This statement was delivered on 22 June and has been posted on the Extranet of the Human Rights Council.
The second was delivered on 26 June within the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers. The submission highlighted training needs related to alternatives, both for pre-trial detention and prosecution, and promotion of the Bangkok Rules.
