Community Service in Practice
Community Service in Practice comprises a collection of key resources to support the implementation and promotion of alternative sanctions to custody. It was produced as a result of the International Conference on Community Service in Africa, organised by PRI and the Zimbabwe National Committee on Community Service (ZNCCS), which took place in Kadoma, Zimbabwe in 1997.
The conference provided a forum for community service practitioners from across the continent to share information on progress made in their respective countries; to discuss and find solutions to common problems encountered within their community service schemes; to develop approaches to alternative measures that could be adapted to other countries and to lay the groundwork for joint actions in providing resources and mutual assistance.
The manual includes the good practice, practical guidelines and supporting legislation that were gathered during the discussions.
