Report from last month’s Learning Initiative on Juvenile Justice hosted by UNICEF India
Following the International Colloquium on Juvenile Justice, PRI’s Programme Development Director Nikhil Roy took part in a UNICEF India Learning Initiative on Juvenile Justice. This two-day event included participants from State Government representatives from the Departments in charge of implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act, personnel from State Child Protection Societies, Police officials, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and consultants at the Ministry of Women and Child Development as well as representatives from NGOs working extensively on juvenile justice and UNICEF Child Protection Staff from Delhi and 11 Field Offices.
The Learning Initiative aimed to enhance understanding on children in conflict with the law, including international legislation and standards, frameworks of interventions, and examples of interventions from the field in order to identify key priority areas and agree on a common framework for action.
This report outlines the discussion and outcomes from the learning initiative, including the presentations led by Nikhil Roy on international standards in juvenile justice and innovative interventions, focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration of child offenders.
