PRI to host First National Conference for Juvenile Justice “Justice for Children” in Jordan
Penal Reform International (PRI) in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate / Juvenile Police Department is organizing the First National Conference on Juvenile Justice: “Justice for Children” on 20 – 21 August 2013. The event is held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Ensour, the Prime Minister of Jordan.
The conference will focus on the modern mechanisms for dealing with juveniles and adopting them in the Juvenile Justice system and development of the legislations and procedures related to the justice for children which reflect the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and related international standards.
The two-day conference will focus on four main topics:
- Legislative, Legal and Security Aspects
- Aftercare – Psychological and Social Care
- Social responsibility and Social Regulations
- Media and Public Outreach
The conference aims to promoting a restorative justice system in Jordan that ensures the best interest of the child, and implementation of alternative methods of dealing with young offenders, other than through criminal proceedings, where appropriate.
