On Tuesday 17 June PRI is co-hosting a side-event, Human Rights of Women in Detention in conjunction with DIGNITY – Danish Institute against Torture, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Permanent Missions of Denmark and Chile. The event coincides with the Annual Day of Discussion on Women’s Rights at the 26th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Panellists include: Norul Rashid, UN Women; Frances Raday, Chair of the Working Group on discrimination against women in law and practice; Federica Donati, on behalf of Rashida Manjoo, Special Rapporteur on violence against women; Mari Amos, Member of Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture (SPT); Therese Maria Rytter, Legal and Advocacy Director, DIGNITY; and a member of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (TBC). The discussion will be moderated by Andrea Huber, PRI’s Policy Director.
Bringing together a number of key international actors on women’s right, the panel will discuss discuss how the UN Bangkok Rules can be put into practice and used as a reference in assessing the development of gender-sensitive criminal justice systems.
