Food ration is the main cost after staff salaries in most prisons in Africa. Since 1998, the Malawi Prison Service has been developing prison farms in partnership with PRI, improving prison conditions and self suffiency.

Seeds of Freedom demonstrates the benefits that can be achieved through well-managed prison farms., illustrating how they contribute dramatically to the rehabilitation and self esteem of prisoners.

Seeds of Freedom was directed by Pierre Kogan, and has been produced with funding from Malawi Safety Security and Access to Justice (MaSSAJ) and the Ford Foundation
