This film is based on the death penalty in Kazakhstan. The death penalty was formerly a common charge for the most obscene crimes, and was at its greatest prominence in 1995, when 101 males on charges of death sentences were executed by the firing squad.

After statistics of this sort were released, a moratorium on executions was put in place and eventually, a bill was passed on the abolition of the death sentence in 2005, by government officials.

The death penalty can now only be subjected with regards to acts of terrorism. Life imprisonment is now the harshest form of sentence for crimes of secondary severity to acts of terrorism. This film contains a number of interviews with prisoners condemned to life sentences.
