A Rare and Arbitrary Fate: Conviction for Murder, the Mandatory Death Penalty and the Reality of Homicide in Trinidad and Tobago, is a statistical study of reported murders and people indicted for murder between 1998 and 2002.

It was researched and written by Roger Hood and Florence Seemungal from the Centre of Criminology, University of Oxford. The research was commissioned by PRI partner, Simons Muirhead & Burton, Solicitors, who run The Death Penalty Project.
